If you are trying to go green, then conserving water should be part of your strategy. An easy way to conserve water is combining a sink with your toilet (no, don't pee in the sink if that's what you're thinking!). Here's a toilet sink I made by running CLEAN water from the intake valve through a copper tube and back into the tank. This more efficient system uses the same water to wash your hands and flush the toilet. It provides 10oz of clean water over a 37-second interval - more than enough to wash your hands without creating unnecessary waste. You can save water each time you flush! This system has been used in Japan for a long time, so I tried making this one for myself at home. Don't get me wrong, I still need my bathroom sink to wash my face and brush my teeth, but here's one little way to save at least a gallon of water 4-6 times per person per day. I built it for less than $20 in materials cost: Chipped bowl from TJ Max - $4.00 1/2" PVC threaded male plug - $0.66 Rubber gasket under bowl - $1.38 1/2" female conversion to barbed coupling - $0.60 1/2" x 1' drain line into overflow tube - $0.37 1/4" brass barbed union - $3.91 (could have picked up a cheaper plastic one) 1/4" x 1' polyurethane tube from fill valve - $0.16 1/4" plastic elbow - $2.68 1/4" x 2' Copper Tube - $5.89 1/2" plywood - free Primer - free White Semigloss paint - free Inspired by the gentleman here: http://youtu.be/jX63YiYD3rc
